A good beard doesn’t take a cabinet full of products. It takes a few minutes a day and the right order. Whether you’re growing your first beard or you’ve had one for years, this simple routine keeps the hair soft and the skin underneath comfortable.

Step 1: Wash gently

Wash your beard a few times a week with a gentle cleanser, not harsh bar soap. Beard hair is coarser than the hair on your head, and the skin under it can dry out fast. Pat it dry with a towel instead of rubbing.

Step 2: Oil the skin underneath

That itch in the first few weeks of growing a beard usually comes from dry skin under new, coarse hair. While your beard is still a little damp, put a few drops of Beard Oil in your palms and massage it into the skin first, then down through the hair. Getting it to the skin is the part most people miss.

Step 3: Butter for softness and shape

Oil softens. Butter seals and shapes. Warm a pea-sized amount of Beard Butter between your palms and work it through from root to tip. Shea and mango butters condition coarse hair, and a touch of beeswax gives light hold to tame flyaways without the stiff feel of a wax.

Step 4: Comb or brush

A wide-tooth comb works well for longer or curly beards. A boar bristle brush helps spread oil evenly and trains shorter beards to lie flat. Brush in the direction you want the hair to grow.

How much to use

Short beard: 2 to 3 drops of oil and a small dab of butter. Medium beard: 4 to 6 drops and a pea-sized amount. Long beard: start with 6 to 8 drops and add more only if it still feels dry. If your beard looks greasy, you’re using too much.

Curly and coily beards

If your beard hair curls tightly, it tends to be drier and more prone to ingrown hairs along the neck. Keep the skin moisturized, use butter to help define the curl, and avoid shaving against the grain on the neckline.

Keep it simple

Oil daily, butter as needed, brush, and wash a few times a week. That’s it. If you want both in one, our Beard Care Duo pairs Beard Oil and Beard Butter.
